Fairytale Fashion Boutique

Last Wednesday I head up to Los Angeles, with some friends, for a one day road trip.  While we were there, we made a stop in Little Tokyo and I had a chance to visit the Fairytale Fashion Boutique. Fairytale Fashion Boutique is a new shop that caters to Lolita Fashion in Los Angeles. I enjoyed the time I was there. The staff is awesome and the selection is great. It is an awesome shop with something available to fit every budget from $5 earrings to the super coveted $500 authentic Angelic Pretty Sugary Carnival OP. They sell new and previously loved items, and are a great option for beginner Lolitas and veteran Lolis alike. They carry a huge assortment of accessories from many recognized artist like Automatic Honey, and Geeky Glamourous, Angelic Pretty and Baby the Stars Shine Bright. You can find blouses, cutsews, skirts, JSK, OPs, and shoes from many of our favorite brands like AP, BTSSB, Emily Temple Cute, and Bodyline.

They host many events like tea parties and artist's fashion line debuts. They have one coming up on October 13, 2012 for Automatic Honey debuting in their boutique. Here is a link for more details Halloween Dinner Party

I definitely recommend this shop to everyone, and can't wait till I have a chance to return.

Please like them on Facebook , and follow them on twitter for more updates on this boutique.

Thank you and keep an eye out for my Fairytale Boutique haul.

-Thank you to Fairytale Boutique for letting me use their photos and logo for this post.

Lolita VS Fairy Kei

Fairy kei 2

Time again to put on my Dr Frankenstein coat and bring you another hybrid...

Fairy Lolita or Fairy kei Lolita will endear the hearts of all my Sweet Lolita followers... especially with so many hybrids spinning from Classic Lolita, its time Sweet Lolis got some attention.

Lets begin with what is Fairy kei...

Fairy kei is style that is inspired by the childrens fashions and cartoons of the 1980s and early 90s. Expect pastels, vintage Reebok sneakers, cute 80s/90s plushies, plastic jewelry, and  embellished vintage Levi's denim jackets. This style is whimiscal, jovial and will have you asking yourself why didn't I keep all my My Little Ponies or Care Bears?

There are many brands that cater to Fairy kei the ones that stand out as the most popular are:

Spank!, 6% Doki Doki Nile PerchManiaQ, and one that's already a favorite among Lolitas, Angelic Pretty .

How do you give a Fairy spin to your Loli?

For all my Sweet Lolita, especially OTT Sweet Lolis head to your closets. Pastel colored blouses, Angelic Pretty Tea Party shoes, Pastel colored wigs can get you well on your way to a bonafide Fairy Lolita coordinate. Hunt down some of your old toys or head to your local thrift store, flea market, or swap meet to find vintage Care Bears, Poggle, My Little Ponies, etc; take out your handy-dandy glue gun, lace, puffy decorative balls, and tulle; and start crafting some sweet accessories for your new look.

For new Lolitas think pastels colored petticoats something like this from Bodyline, some cute cartoon character cutsews/t shirt (extra points if the are vintage 80s and 90s tees) and some cute vintage reebok-type shoes (here's a link to help with shoe options).

Have fun and see you next time...

Dolly Kei

I've been meaning to make this post for sometime now and thought it was best I posted something after a long hiatus and why not let this be my first post back.

First off, what is Dolly kei?

Dolly kei first started Japan. It is a hodgepodge of elements that takes influence from historical fashion, Medieval, 1970's prairie style, eastern European tradition dress, Gothic stories, and a fondness for taxidermy

Dolly kei and Mori-girl have many motifs and themes in common, making it difficult to make out whether an outfits is Mori-girl or Dolly kei. Both styles evoke images of fairy tales. While Mori-girl might be what characters like Gretel, Rose Red or Rose White are wearing, Dolly kei would be what the witch or soothe-sayer is dressed in.

There is an undeniable spooky factor visable in Dolly kei that isn't in your typical Mori-girl (maybe in dark Mori-girl but that's something to be discussed in another post). Memento Mori jewelery such as broken porcelain doll's head necklaces, raven skull pendants, and butterfly wigs earrings are coordinated with tattered and noticeably wore clothes giving this style a more eerie mystique and separating it from the sweeter more innocent Mori-girl.

Grimoire is the boutique which birthed Dolly kei. It the most whimsical, and ghostly shop and website set up. It is so enchanting that you can nearly forget that perhaps the spine hanging from the ceiling  belonged to someone that is now of the dearly departed.

Is this style for you?

Do you enjoy Eastern European fairy tales?
Do you like dressing in vintage and worn dirndls and embroider aprons?
Do you have a taste for the macabre and dream of a pearl embellished crow skull broach?

Then Dolly kei may be for you.

Non Loli News: SOPA and PIPA

Hello all,

Today I want to mention a something that is putting at risk the internet as we know it. By now I hope some of you have heard of SOPA and PIPA, these are two bills that are going in front of congress and though are intended on eliminating piracy, have to much room for some to abuse it and limit our liberties. Now I feel that this topic is important to the EGL community because most of our community is virtual and can only be accessed through the internet. Now please take the time to watch this video because it explains these bills much better than I can. I also ask that you consider signing the petitions and/or pass along to friends, and family so that we can help stop these bills. Thank you to all my readers.
